Date: Monday, April 16, 2018
On Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., April 14, 2018, the Geauga County Republican Party’s Central Committee met and appointed Charles “Chuck” Walder to fill the vacancy for County Auditor. Prior to the meeting, Mr. Walder submitted his letter of intent and resume to Committee members stating that, “I offer new leadership, open and cooperative dialog, and technical understanding of the varied disciplines that make up the auditor’s office. I ask for your support, confidence, and vote. In return, I will honorably represent the Republican Party through action, accountability, and commitment to the people of Geauga County.” Mr. Walder also submitted a letter of support to the Committee signed by 25 people, including GOP Chairman Nancy McArthur and other party officers, as well as Senator John Eklund. No one else appeared to speak before the Committee, and Mr. Walder was nominated and approved by a majority of the members, with two members abstaining.
Immediately following the meeting, Chuck Walder was sworn into office by County Treasurer Chris Hitchcock. He is running unopposed in the Republican primary election. Walder will serve as the Auditor until the November election results are certified. After that time, the candidate who wins will be sworn into office.
